eagle vision
a friend of mine just went for Lasik surgery last week. she used the same eye surgeon who gave me eagle vision 3 years ago. prices have dropped by nearly S$2,000 since then. previously, i had my operation done over 2 consecutive days. 1 day for each eye, just in case..... if anything goes wrong, still have one good (but myopic) eye to live with. currently, the practice is to operate on both eyes in a day. i wonder if that is to bring down costs due to price competition that became more intense with the increased transparency in hospital bills.
see, MOH has published all the prices in their website so that you don't have to call each hospital individually to compare prices.

the surgery itself is quick and painless. over within minutes. this is the surgery room.

Here is me looking petrified before the surgery. notice that they taped the 'shower cap' to my forehead. so unglamourous....

Here is me, still petrified, after the surgery.

The plastic cover over my eye and tape running across my face made me look vulnerable and the hospital attendant kindly flagged down a taxi for me, opened the door and ushered me in. Post-surgery, eyes started tearing non-stop (quite a strange sensation, these emotionless tears) and because there was a cut in the cornea, the saltish tears caused pain similar to that when your eyes comes into contact with seawater. Of course, the intensity of the pain is multiplied 3 times but this is small pain to bear in exchange for eagle vision!

Something they might not tell you is that the best time to do the Lasik is when they have just calibrated the machine!!! :-)
ohhh... i didnt know that. i was also not informed in advance that there would be a group of visiting surgeons watching my operation that day like i was a specimen.
